Incubation Troubleshooting

"Runts" in the growing birds (usually detected by three to four weeks of age or older).

Probable Cause Suggested Corrective Measure
Poor egg quality involving excessive shell contamination, usually floor eggs or cracked eggs.

Set only clean, uncracked eggs. Check hatcher sanitation procedures. Make sure hatcher and hatch trays have been thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and fumigated after each hatch.

Poor hatchery sanitation, particularly during hatching.

Follow all approved hatchery sanitation techniques. Make sure contamination does not build up. Do not recirculate foul air.
