Week of April 30, 2012 in my Garden

The cool temperatures have slowed down plant growth and blooming in my garden, but most are still ahead of their normal schedule. Here are some highlights this week.
  • Herb garden - sage is in full bloom. Since the plants overwintered well, this is the best bloom display that my sage has had.
  • Pergola/Water garden - Iris are blooming. Photo shows three: large gold one, smaller purple & white one, and a yellow flower on the water flag plant is just starting to open (look hard to see it).
  • Pool area - I began planting my new shade garden behind the gazebo.
  • Perennial garden - Dianthus is blooming right now.
  • Fire pit area - My white rhododendrons look beautiful this year.
  • Front yard - this is the best year's bloom display for my Deutzia!

It has been raining this week almost every day. We really needed the rain. One evening my husband and I walked around during a lull in the rain. The evening lighting perfectly accented the various shades of green in my yard. Wet leaves glistened as they soaked up the much needed water. It was a delight and privilege to experience nature's wonders on that magical night.
