Four Seasons Gardening Programs Available on YouTube

The University of Illinois Extension Four Seasons Gardening Series is now available for home viewing.

The Four Seasons Gardening Series is a seasonal series of gardening topics offered virtually throughout the state of Illinois. Members of the University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Team collaborate to offer a variety of expertise to this series.

Rhonda Ferree, University of Illinois Extension educator in horticulture, presented the first Four Seasons Gardening program in fall 200 on Spring Bulbs. Since then more than 100 programs have been presented covering every aspect of gardening. Programs were presented via the University of Illinois distance delivery system, which allowed live discussion between the presenter and gardeners throughout Illinois. Most programs were hosted at local Extension offices and were only available during the live presentation.

Ferree is happy to announce that the programs will now be accessible for live home viewing as well as available to view later on a new YouTube channel.

The 2015 Four Seasons Gardening Series will include three programs each season. Winter topics will include Winter Sempervivums, Beekeeping, and The Edible Indoor. Spring programs will include Strawbale Gardening, Sustainable Landscapes, and Practical Weed Control. Summer programs cover Native Plants , Edimentals – Rainbow Veggies, and Garden Photography. Fall 2015 brings Biotic vs Abiotic, Vegetative propagation, and Busting Garden Myths.

Stay tuned to your local Extension office calendar of events for more details on how to participate in these programs from the comfort of your home. Extension offices and event calendars are found at http://web.extension.illinois.edu/state/index.cfm.

Several of the 2014 Four Seasons Gardening programs are now available on a new University of Illinois Extension Horticulture YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEYBGqFXZS6Sn37n1mVcY1g. Each session is recorded live and then uploaded here in order to offer this program to others. Please be aware that the recommendations in this series are specific to Illinois and may not apply to other gardening zones.

Programs currently available on YouTube include home hydroponics, greenhouses for home gardeners, daylilies, herbs, bargain gardening, pest control strategies in the garden, west nile virus and mosquitoes, starting a youth garden, and home orchards.
