Volunteer Opportunities

Primary Partners – No additional approval needed to do volunteer activities

  1. The Nature Conservancy – Emiquon
  2. Dickson Mounds Museum
  3. Therkildsen Field Station, University of Illinois-Springfield
  4. Emiquon Corps of Discovery
  5. Peoria Park District, including Forest Park Nature Center and Camp Wokanda
  6. Wildlife Prairie State Park
  7. Jubilee College State Park (Prairie Dawgs)
  8. Fondulac Park District, East Peoria
  9. Pekin Park District, including work at the Soldwedel Program Center

Project Tasks include:

  • Natural resource stewardship – planning, wildlife and vegetation monitoring, prescribed burning, trail work, invasives removal, etc.
  • Educational efforts – provide environmental education to the public
  • Administrative efforts – behind the scenes work on newsletters, planning conferences or workshops, etc.

Levels of Master Naturalists

  • Trainee – successfully completed initial training requirements
  • Intern – time between graduation and completing initial 60 required hours of volunteer service (have 24 months to complete service)
  • Active – completed initial 30 hours of service. To maintain active status, need 30 volunteer service hours and 10 continuing education hours yearly.
