Saline County 4-H Achievement NightSaline County 4-H Achievement Night will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 5:30 pm at Harrisburg Middle School. We will have our potluck dinner again this year, so please bring a dish or two to share. Bring a main course, a casserole, a salad, a veggie, a dessert, or whatever you and your family like best, and join us for a fun, informal meal before our awards program. (Drinks, plates, napkins, and table service will be provided.) All Federation Officers need to arrive by 4 pm to help set up, prepare to speak and hand out awards. We would appreciate any help from the Achievement Night Committee, parents, and other members, too! Mark your calendars now and plan to attend. "Oh, The Places You'll Go...in 4-H!" Attending Achievement Night will count on your 4-H records in the Participation section as "Participated in one county 4-H activity or event."
Federation NewsThe Saline County 4-H Federation met on Monday, September 17th at the Extension office. Those in attendance discussed Achievement Night, upcoming National 4-H Week events, and our Thanksgiving gift sacks. We also elected officers. Our 2018-2019 Federation Officers are: President - Callie Oxford; Vice-President - Chloe Hopkins; Secretary - Christian Jean; Treasurer - Rachel Lands; Recreation Officer - Matthew Lorimer. CONGRATULATIONS! Federation officers will be installed at Achievement Night. Achievement Night SlideshowThis year, during our Achievement Night Potluck Dinner, we plan to have a slideshow of photos of our past 4-H year. Thank you in advance to Callie Oxford for agreeing to put the slideshow together for us! WE NEED YOUR PHOTOS BY OCTOBER 5! Please send any photos that you took of any 4-H events this year to Nancy - email@example.com - so I can forward them to Callie! THANK YOU!!!
WADI Needs our Help!Families of Head Start youth in Saline County are struggling and I think Saline County 4-H can do something to help them out this Thanksgiving. We are partnering with WADI this year to bring Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets to Headstart families with young children. From October 15th to November 9th, we will collect food items for these Thanksgiving Dinner baskets. WADI staff plans to distribute the baskets to the households on November 15th. Requested items for the Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets are: Cranberry Sauce/Canned Fruit, Green Beans, Corn, Stuffing Mix, Boxed/Canned Potatoes (instant mashed, scalloped, au gratin, sweet potatoes), Brownie/Cookie Mix, and Macaroni & Cheese. The Salvation Army is providing a Turkey for each basket. You can bring your food items to Achievement Night. After that, we will have collection box at the Extension office. Together, we can make a difference this Thanksgiving season! Donating to this worthy cause will count on your 4-H records in the Community Service section as "Participated in a group service activity organized by my county 4-H program."
4-H Fall Party and Wiener Roast(We are inviting other Unit 24 4-H Youth) You are invited to the 2nd Annual 4-H Fall Party and Wiener Roast! Join us at the Fairgrounds Livestock Barn area on Saturday, November 3, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm for a fun Fall evening! We are planning a Bonfire and Weiner Roast, a Scavenger Hunt, Flashlight Tag (bring a working flashlight), and much more! As with our 4-H Rally in the Spring, we are hoping to increase our membership. So, we ask that each 4-H member bring a non-4-H friend. Let's show them how much fun Saline County 4-H can be! Hot dogs and buns, chips and drinks will be provided. We ask that families bring desserts, cookies, and/or S'mores fixings. Also, bring wiener roast sticks if you have them. Don't Miss the Fun! See you There! RSVP by October 26th!
We are collecting warm socks for the 4C's Homeless Shelter. Please be generous. Donating to this worthy cause will count on your 4-H records in the Community Service section as "Participated in a group service activity organized beyond my county 4-H program." (circle Multi) OR Bringing a non-4-H friend to the Fall Party will count on your 4-H records under the Leadership section as "Recruited a non-4-H member to attend a 4-H sponsored event."
Unit 24 Manners & Table Etiquette WorkshopPlease plan to join us on Monday, November 12, at 4:00 pm as we welcome Marilyn Ellis to the Extension Office in Harrisburg. Mrs. Ellis will teach us proper table manners and etiquette, as well as courtesy at dinner and in conversations. Using good manners shows others that we respect them. With two big occasions when families and friends gather, Thanksgiving and Christmas, what better time to learn good manners. We are opening this workshop up to youth ages 8 and up from our 6 county unit. This will be a great time to see the friends again who you met at Cosmic Bowling and Livestock Judging. There is no charge for the workshop, but we do ask that you RSVP by November 5th. Following the workshop, we will have a potluck meal to practice our newly learned good manners. Please bring a dish to share. Federation will have a short meeting following the potluck meal. We hope to see you all there! Attending this workshop can count on your 4-H records in the Project Learning section as "Participated in a 4-H workshop or other learning opportunity beyond my county related to my 4-H project." (circle Multi) OR Attending this workshop will count on your 4-H records in the Participation section as "Participated in at least one 4-H activity or event outside my county." (circle Multi)
4HOnline Is Open!It is time, once again, to think about enrolling or re-enrolling in Saline County 4-H for the 2018-2019 4-H year. Remember...4H Online carries over all of last years projects and publications. You have to delete any of these that you do not want for this year. Families can once again pay the $20 program fee by credit card online or by bringing a check or cash in to the office. If you paid by credit card last year and want to do so again, please remember to check your card's expiration date and change it if necessary. Also please check all information and change if necessary. As always, call the Extension Office with any questions you may have. To get started, go to our Saline County 4-H website: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/ghhpsw/saline4h/2771.html Scroll down to New Member "How to Enroll Through 4-H Online" or Returning Member "How to Enroll Through 4-H Online" to get all the details. To re-enroll, go to: https://il.4honline.com Put in your email and password.
Parent & Leader NewsYou will notice in this newsletter that I have given suggestions of how to relate our events and activities to your 4-H Experience Awards Packet (records) for next year. We encourage families to pick up a blank copy of the records packet at Achievement Night or from the Extension Office and begin to list your activities throughout the 4-H year rather than rely on memory. While the records packet may change slightly for next year, at least you will have somewhere to start. Remember, you can use a 4-H event/activity only one time on your 4-H Experience Awards application.
Enroll NowYouth and adults are encouraged to enroll or re-enroll in 4-H as soon as possible. This year, due to changes in the insurance coverage, youth and adults are not fully covered until they enroll/re-enroll. Therefore, youth and adults are not permitted to attend any 4-H club meetings or events, 4-H county events or 4-H multi-county or beyond events until the enrollment process is complete, including payment. As you can see in this newsletter, we have many events and activities planned. We want all youth and adults to be able to attend. So...we hope that one of the "Places You'll Go" is to 4-H Online!
New Year Club PaperworkNew 4-H Year paperwork will be ready for pick-up at Achievement Night. Included in the new year packet for each club will be: Club Officers and Progress Goals forms, and some Committee Sheets. Please return your Club paperwork no later than December 15.
