Unusual flowers; a stalk of tiny flowers ('Jack') surrounded by a spathe (the 'pulpit'). In this species 'Jack' is much taller than his 'pulpit' Orange berries late in season.

Partial to full shade; moist, well drained soils to wet organic soils.
