University of Illinois Extension 4-H Staff Recognized

ROCKFORD, ILL.-University of Illinois Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Community Worker Mia Chase, was awarded the STEM-sational Impact Award during the 2018 April 4-H All-Team State meeting in Champaign, IL.
Mia was recognized for her outstanding work with the 4-H Tech Wizards program here in Winnebago County. Mia implements STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) projects with youth here in the Rockford area, ages 9 and up. Chase creates fun and engaging hands-on activities that educate youth in the areas of robotics, 3-D printing, aerospace, wind energy, GPS, digital video, circuit building, and organic products such as toothpaste and bath bombs.
“Mia serves as a strong leader and mentor for our young people and she creates a positive atmosphere that fosters learning and inclusion”, says Annie Hobson, 4-H Youth Development Educator. Mia currently programs with several youth agencies in the Rockford area such as Rock House Kids and many of the Boys and Girls Club sites, serving nearly 200 youth.
