4-H in Livingston County

4-H in Livingston County

The Livingston County 4-H program is actually a part of University of Illinois Extension. Through U of I Extension, 4-H programs are conducted statewide. 4-H is an organization that is known all over the world, with clubs in every county of every state in the United States, and in more than 80 countries around the world.

4-H is organized into clubs throughout the county, based either on where members live, or projects they choose to take. Volunteer adult leaders help to lead the clubs, provide organization and adult supervision for the various club activities. They also help to provide educational opportunities for the members, and chances for leadership and citizenship development.

If you are looking to join a 4-H club, you may contact a 4-H leader or the Extension Office.

The 4-H year begins on September 1. Enrollment must be done online at  Youth are invited to join 4-H at any time throughout the year; however, to be eligible to participate in the Livingston County 4-H Show, youth must meet the following 4-H enrollment deadlines:

October 31: Returning members not enrolled by October 31 are considered inactive. Members will not be covered by insurance until:

  • They have enrolled and all required boxes checked in 4HOnline
  • Sign the Risk and Liability Form and mailed to the Extension Office postmarked on or before October 31.
  • Pay the $20 program fee. The program fee can be paid on 4H Online by debit or credit card or by check, 4-H Club check, cash, or money order sent to the Extension Office.

Youth who do not enroll by that time would have LIMITED PARTICIPATION options until they complete enrollment. It also means:

  • Inactive families will no longer receive email notifications from the local office until enrollment is completed.
  • Members who remain inactive will not be able to count meetings towards their membership agreement after October.
  • Inactive members will also not be allowed to sign up for the local 4-H show/fair.

April 15: Final changes for project Enrollment in order to exhibit at the county 4-H show for all returning AND new members.
