News Release

Register NOW for 2018 Home, Lawn and Garden Day- a day of gardening fun and learning!

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –University of Illinois Extension McLean County Master Gardeners would like to invite you to their 16th annual Home, Lawn and Garden Day on Saturday, March 3 at the Catholic High School. Home, Lawn and Garden Day is a day dedicated to garden fun! It is an ideal place to get inspiration for future garden projects, fall in love with a must-have plant or learn the basics of everyday gardening. McLean County Master Gardeners host their annual Home, Lawn and Garden Day just in time to beat the winter blahs. Home, Lawn and Garden Day is an event packed full of gardening speakers and workshops including keynote speaker, Susan Martin. Susan is an avid gardener from Holland, Michigan, and has worked in the business of horticulture for 20 years, including designing residential landscapes and marketing for the largest grower of wholesale perennials in the U.S. She will discuss some “Gold Standard Perennials” perfect for any garden. The fee for this day-long program is $50 and includes, the welcome and keynote sessions, choice of three additional break-out sessions, morning refreshments, and lunch. Hands-on workshops may have additional costs to cover materials that may be used. With over 35 breakout sessions to choose from, there is sure to be something for every kind of gardener. Online registration opens Monday, January 8. Please register at our University of Illinois Extension website at or stop by the McLean County Extension Office (1615 Commerce Parkway, Bloomington). The day will open with a presentation for all by Sandy Mason, Illinois State Master Gardener Coordinator, titled “High Impact/Low Work Shrubs for your Flower Garden.” Shrubs can provide summer leaf and flower color, fall color, and winter beauty. With new woody plant introductions that grow slowly and stay small, shrubs may be the low maintenance plants you’ve been dreaming of. Some of the breakout sessions offered include photographing flowers, landscape design tips, container vegetable gardening, environmentally friendly lawn and garden care, tree pruning, and kokedama string gardening. There will be plenty of time to visit and shop with the many exhibitors. It is an excellent opportunity to meet and talk with local garden center representatives about new products or to purchase a garden treasure. There will also be a silent auction this year to support the McLean County Master Gardeners community projects. For questions about the program, or if you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, please contact us at (309) 663-8306. Reserve your spot today!
