As a Nutrition and Wellness Educator, Jenna Smith's primary responsibility is to help individuals acquire the knowledge and skills to improve and maintain their nutritional well-being. She delivers educational programs with an emphasis on food safety, food buying, and disease prevention.
Smith has a bachelor of science degree in family and consumer sciences - food, nutrition and dietetics from Illinois State University. In addition, she has completed her master of public health degree at the University of Illinois - Springfield. She is both a registered dietitian (RD) and a licensed dietitian nutritionist (LDN). She holds a Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health and now serves as an instructor for the certification and renewal courses.
Before joining Extension, Smith previously served as a hospital clinical dietitian at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois where she specialized in medical nutrition therapy for the oncology and critical care population. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Illinois Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and Central Illinois Dietetic Association.
Smith grew up in rural Sangamon County where she became acquainted with Extension as a member of the Town and Country 4-H Club. She currently resides in McLean County with her husband.
