Master Naturalists

What We Do

Most importantly, we have fun working with like-minded individuals while helping others and the environment.  Master Naturalists promote education and natural resource stewardship.  Volunteers are also encouraged to work with partnering conservation groups, universities and colleges, and government agencies.  Many existing volunteer opportunities are already available through the Extension Unit.  Individuals are also welcome to pursue new projects with prior approval.  Some activities may require additional training and certification.

  • Citizen Scientist efforts (Butterfly Monitoring, Bird Migration, Riverwatch, etc.)
  • Teaching adults or children
  • Giving demonstrations and presentations to local community groups
  • Guided nature tours

Natural Resource Stewardship

  • Hands-on site maintenance
  • Wildlife and vegetation monitoring
  • Control of invasive species
  • Habitat restoration
  • Adding wildlife habitats (constructing bird houses, bat houses)
  • Trail work
