Weekend Gardener Event Taking Registrations

If winter has you down, get rejuvenated and ready for spring at the Weekend Gardener to be held at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville. The event sponsored by University of Illinois Extension will be held Saturday, March 3 with sixteen workshop choices.  Registration is requested by February 27.

           Workshop topics include:

Gardening Until You are Black and Blue (Blackberries and Blueberries!) & Planting a Straw Bale Garden by Elizabeth Wahle, University of Illinois Extension Commercial Agriculture Educator;

  • Gardening with Native Plants by Trudy Effinger, Effinger Garden Center
  • The Joy of Decorating with Container Gardens by Sandy Richter, Sandy’s Back Porch
  • Cooking with Herbs by Arla Chevess, U of I Extension Master Gardener
  • Guide to Vegetable Gardening: From Soil to Seeds to Produce by Sterling Garnto, U of I            Extension Master Gardener
  • Vermicomposting by Crystal Stevens, EarthDance Garden Manager
  • Fall in Love with Daylilies by Lisa Dean, U of I Extension Master Gardener
  • Other topics include Botany and Music, Therapeutic Gardens, The Tall Grass Prairie in Illinois & How You Can Help; Hydrangeas; Bringing a Victorian Garden into the 21st Century; Native Prairie Restoration for Aesthetics, Wildlife Habitat and Preservation; Flowering Shrubs, and Bringing Conservation Home.


Registration information along with the complete program with description is available at Seating is limited to the first 150 and pre-registration is required by February 20.
