Leasing questions for 2013

Posted by Russel Higgins -

What to ask for or what to offer is one of the most challenging agreements to reach and also one that has a substantial impact on the economic success for both the farmer and the landowner. With the expected volatility and uncertainty resulting from the 2012 growing season, risk increases for producers and more uncertainty arises about the amount of cash rent to pay. On the other side of the negotiating table, landowners, seeing higher profitability in recent years for commodity crops, are possibly seeking higher cash rents. So, just what is that "most equitable" cash rent amount and how can it be maintained from year to year or contract to contract?

Join Dr. Gary Schnitkey, University of Illinois Farm Management Extension Specialist, for a morning or afternoon session that will provide informative education on how you can determine cash rents. Other alternatives like crop share, flexible cash rent and custom farming will be discussed.

There is a small cost for participation and includes light refreshments. Please call or register online by Monday, August 27, 2012, to reserve your spot. Preregistration is required.
