A frustrating harvest

Posted by Russel Higgins - Corn

Early soybean have been harvested at the Northern Illinois Agronomy Research Center in preparation for our winter wheat trials. We we expect to plant our 2013 winter wheat trials. Most activity in our neighboring area has concentrated on corn harvest. As expected, we are receiving a wide range of yields and occasional reports of lodged corn. Harvesting the lodged corn is truly challenging, the corn plant is so dry it simply falls across the head and does not feed into the cross auger. A very important reminder to our farmers experiencing this dilemma. ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY turn off the header before attempting to dislodge the stalks! Safety First!
