Slushy end to February

Posted by Russel Higgins -

Some wild swings in weather as we finish the month of February, leaving us with slushy and soft driveways. But we will continue to take precipitation in any form as we recharge the soils for this 2013 growing season. If your seed corn has been delivered, I would encourage you to check the tags to insure that you are following the required refuge requirements. An easy way to determine if you are following the recommendations is by visiting the National Corn Growers Association online IRM (insect resistance management) calculator. Whether your seed purchases dictate structured refuges or refuge in a bag, making plans now will save valuable decision making time when the planters can go.
