Features
Excellent low growing mound shaped plant and one of the earliest flowering in the late winter very early spring. Clean glossy foliage that is semi-evergreen.
Culture
Prefers moist, high organic matter soil in a shade to partial shade site.
Cultivars
Many new culitvars available. Some include:
'Spotted Hybrids' 20 inches tall, mixed colored flowers with spots on the blooms.
'Pine Knot Select' 12-18 inches, yellow, white, picotee flowers
'Mrs. Betty Raincar' 12-18 inches white flowers
'Red Lady' 20 inches tall, red flowers
Notes
Slow to establish but are long lived once they do. Need high organic matter soils that are moist and in a shaded location. Foliage tends to be evergreen. Remove damaged foliage in the spring. Sap may cause skin rashes. Reported to be deer and rabbit resistant.
