Samuel de Champlain

Champlain was born in Brouage, France, in 1567. He was a French explorer, navigator and map maker. In 1603, as a geographer he sailed to Canada on a furtrading expedition. He traveled up the Saguenay, St. Lawrence, and Richelieu rivers. He used the information he collected on this trip to make a very accurate map of Canada from the Hudson Bay to the Great Lakes.
