In 1609, the Dutch East India Company which did the most trade with the Orient (Asia), wanted a shorter and less expensive way to the Orient. They were currently traveling around the Cape of Good Hope. They hired Hudson and gave him an 80-ton ship called the 'Half Moon' and a crew of 20 Dutch and English sailors.
