River Management: The Good, Bad & Ugly

salmonHow many times have you changed your mind in the last week? The same is true for all people who manage rivers. They are constantly looking at new ways to wisely use river resources.

For example, once prime farmland on the Illinois River is now being converted back to natural wetlands. In Idaho, a hydroelectric dam was removed to allow salmon to migrate and reproduce. What was once thought of as commercial best use of these rivers has now been rethought. Today, conservation is the main focus in these locations.
