2018 Map and Compass Training
The University of Illinois Extension Forestry is teaming up with the Shawnee National Forest to host a training to instruct participants on how to navigate using a map and compass. This valuable skill is useful for hikers, hunters, backcountry campers, natural resource workers, and anyone wanting to learn additional navigational skills.
The training is 9am-4pm on May 19th at the Dixon Springs Agricultural Center in Pope County, IL. The class will be hands-on and give participants the opportunity to practice using a map and compass. There is a $10 fee for the course, lunch is included in the price. The field exercise portion of the course will involve some moderate hiking through forests over uneven terrain.
