Connecting Generations

Connecting Generations is a mentoring program that pairs middle and high school students with adults who wish to learn technology (computer basics, internet, e-readers, cell phones, et cetera). The program first started in Unit 21 of University of Illinois Extension, which is Clay, Effingham, Fayette, and Jasper Counties.

Connecting Generations Mentoring Programs

Connecting Generations is offered with the East Central Illinois Development Corporation and local libraries. High school students are training senior citizens on computer usage throughout the area. The students receive community service hours and a nice addition to their résumés. The seniors are obtaining education on computers, helping them connect with family and important programs. The library staff is getting relief from doing the training. Win-Win- Win. The program continues to improve as we are obtaining feedback from the participants at other libraries that are now using the program.
