John Davis is a youth development educator in Grundy, Kankakee and Will counties. He collaborates with other Extension personnel in the areas of school enrichment, community outreach and 4-H activities. He has developed programs in the areas of robotics, GPS, Junior Master Gardener, leadership and team building.

John's background includes a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics and a master's degree in teaching from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He has taught high school agriculture classes in Green Bay, Wisconsin and at the High School for Agricultural Science in Chicago. He has also taught distance-learning classes at Joliet Junior College. After leaving teaching he worked as a resource conservationist for the Soil and Water District and a counselor for the Department of Labor Job Corps program.

Personal improvement and achievement activities are important to John. He has worked with local Boy Scouts as a leader and merit badge counselor. He also coaches area cross-country and soccer players. In addition, he is certified by the Illinois High School Association as a basketball and soccer official. John is a former 4-H member and has been a county fair superintendent and judge. He has been a member of Jaycees and Kiwanis. He also served as March of Dimes Board Chairman. He is the newsletter editor for the local running club and does volunteer work for the park district. John enjoys the opportunity to combine his varied educational and volunteer experiences as the youth development educator for Grundy, Kankakee and Will counties.

Program Offerings

Operation Military Kids (OMK) Backpacks Delivered

Kaitlyn Harlow & Perry Harlow helped John Davis deliver 82 backpacks to children of soldiers who were being deployed from the 178th Infantry Division of the Illinois Army National Guard on Monday, July 3rd.

The backpacks were loaded with various items including stuffed animals, cameras and supplies to write to their deployed parents. This program is nationwide and is sponsored by several groups including 4-H, U.S. Army and the National Guard.

4-H clubs that are interested in sending letters to troops can contact the office for names and addresses.
