Measuring the amount of water in snow is harder to do. The amount of water in an inch of snow can vary depending on how compact the snow is. Typically, fresh snow is only about 5 to 15 percent as dense as water. As a general guideline, 10 inches of snow will be about the same as one inch of rain.
