Thank you for your interest in the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener Program. The Master Gardener program is designed for adults of all ages that desire the opportunity to learn about horticulture and positively impact our local community.
Master Gardeners are volunteers that have gone through an eleven-week horticulture training course led by University of Illinois Extension Educators. Once training is complete, trainees participate in volunteer work before being designated as University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners. Each county has a variety of volunteer opportunities such as answering home horticulture questions from the public, teaching young children how to garden, conducting public workshops, creating display gardens, working with local organizations, and more.
Master Gardener trainees complete a minimum of 60 hours of training and then agree to complete 60 hours volunteer service within two years to become a Certified Master Gardener. To maintain certification, Master Gardeners must complete 30 hours volunteer service and take 10-hours of continuing education. Applicants must interview with their local Program Coordinator before training begins.
The 2018 Master Gardener Training in Carlinville will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays (expect February 22) for a webinar presentation method at the University of Illinois Extension office in Carlinville at #60 Carlinville Plaza, Carlinville, IL.
Program fee is $175 which covers the cost of the Master Gardener manual and general program costs such as facility rental, instructor fees, supplies and more. You are welcome to pay in installments, if necessary. Final payment should be made, however, by the first day of class.
