Master Naturalist Training in Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Unit begins

June 11, 2018

The Illinois Master Naturalist program is designed to educate and train a corps of volunteers to provide support in conservation, management, and interpretation of the area’s natural resources.

The program provides science-based educational opportunities that connect people with nature and help them become engaged environmental stewards.

With the help of local experts, University of Illinois Extension provides the educational support for the program, while volunteering is typically coordinated through local partners.

Each Master Naturalist volunteer participates in 60 hours of initial training. The classes will be held at various natural settings throughout the four-county area. Training sessions include lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and field trips. Educators who participate in the training are eligible for 60 Professional Development hours.

  • Classes will be held June 11-22.
  • The fee for those who wish to volunteer is $250. This covers training and the Master Naturalist Manual.
  • The fee for those who just want to learn is $350. This covers training and the Master Naturalist Manual.
  • 60 Hours of Continuing Education is provided through the Regional Office of Education #53.
  • Educators wanting Professional Development hours pay a $10 fee to the Regional Office of Education #53 upon completing training.
  • Registration will close on May 31, 2018.
