Buggy about bugs?
Struggling with pinning your insects?
Having trouble with identification?
Thinking about studying entomology?

If you are a 4-H member age 8-18 and enrolled in an entomology project this year, come and Bug Out with us as Kelly Estes, state survey coordinator for Illinois Cooperative Agriculture Pest Survey Program at the Natural History Survey, answers all of your questions during one hands-on workshop. Cloverbuds age 5-7 are invited to participate in a workshop at 1pm.

Kelly will cover the basics of insect collecting, how to properly pin your insects and how to use resources to identify insects to prepare your collection for your 4-H show. She will also discuss what career path you can follow if you are considering studying entomology.

  • Wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes
  • Bring insect repellent & sunscreen
  • Bring any insects you have already collected
  • Bring collecting gear if you have some, otherwise we will have nets, jars, etc. available

Bring a health form with you if you haven’t submitted one to your local Extension office in advance
