2018 Gardening Insights

February 24, 2018

Richland Community College
One College Park
Decatur, IL 62521 (Macon County)

Join the Macon County Master Gardeners for a unique and fun day of horticulture programs. With 12 classes to chose from, beginning and expert gardeners will find topics of interest.

This year our keynote speaker, Chicago-based author Amanda Thomsen, is sure to have you laughing with delight as she approaches gardening with her light-hearted attitude. Amanda’s playful approach, Felco pruners tattoo and signature black-rimmed cat’s eye glasses will show you that gardening is an adventure. She will have you looking beyond the norm and embracing the what that makes you who you are.

During our lunch sessions, we are featuring  speaker Connor Shaw from Possibility Place in Monee. Conner is a leader in growing Illinois native trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. He will have you thinking about how you can successfully incorporate native shrubs into your landscape.

Be sure to stop by our Ask a Master Gardener desk to help get answers for all horticulture questions. Garden novelties such as plant stakes and garden gloves will be available for purchase to prepare for the spring planting season.

Amanda Thomsen’s book, Kiss My Aster, will be available for purchase. She will be available to sign books immediately after her presentation until 3pm.

Lunch is included in admission price. You have a choice of a veggie wrap, ham or turkey sandwich. Coffee and tea will be provided.

Review the classes inside and remember, classes fill early. Register now by visiting go.illinois.edu/dmp or fill out the enclosed form and mail it today.

We look forward to spending the day with you at Gardening Insights 2018.
