Programming Updates:

Leonard Parker (Educator for the 4H team)

· Mr. Parker presented the new program that the 4H team has begun. "Health Rocks" is estimated to reach 3,000 youth and educate them on the risks and prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and drug usage.

Veronica Aranda, Ashley Phillips, and Durriyyah Kemp (Educators for the Community Health Team)

· Presented the council with different programs they have been working on this year.

Administrative Updates:

Director Buffet

· Extension has continued to work with Cook County Commissioners to get back in the budget. We have 3-4 commissioners that have supported us.

· We have been placed in the Forest Preserve District of Cook County budget for $250,000. Commissioner Steele has provided the County Board President, Toni Preckwinkle with a letter of support for Extension.

· Regina Rivers, Julie Emerick, and Ethel Muhammad sent letters of "Thank You" to Robert Steele and Congressmen Danny Davis.

· A challenge that we have been facing is having those elected officials of old that had knowledge about the rich history of Extension and the national system about Extension. Director Buffett has made personal visits to each commissioner office to keep them abreast of Extensions' outreach. Director Buffett has assigned Extension's Program Coordinators to assist her with hand delivering materials to the commissioners to keep them abreast of everything Extension is doing for the Cook County Residents. This is an ongoing process.

Plan of Work Summary:

· Director Buffett met with Dedra Ries and Michael Johns, two council members, to discuss suggestions Unit 6 annual plan of work. The suggestions and recommendations were included in the packet for the December council folders. Council members will review for any further input.

Nominations for Elections:

· The council will begin Nominations for next year's council board. Please send any Nominations to Victoria Meeks ( before the next meeting, March 8. The nomination committee will meet to establish the slate.
