WE HAD A BIG OAK FALL IN THE SPRING AND WHEN MY HUSBAND BEGAN TO CUT INTO IT WE FOUND SEVERAL HUGE, WHITE WORMS. SOME OF THEM WERE AS BIG AS MY THUMB! THE AREA OF THE TREE THEY WERE LIVING IN SEEMED TO BE SEVERELY DECAYED, ALMOST LIKE DIRT. WE DID FIND SOME SMALL WORMS IN THE ARE AS WELL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

SINCERELY, M. MEYER

Hi Melissa, there are plenty of beetles that lay eggs in decomposing plant material. their young are white grubs. May not mean much as to why the tree fell. they just had a nice pleace to live. you may want to contact your local Extension office to find out more. they will more than likely need a picture or the specimen to tell you more specific info. check out this website for an office near you. http://www.msue.msu.edu/portal/
