I am considering planting holly to form a privacy hedge. I have read that you need male and female plants to bear fruit. The berries are not as important to me as the privacy aspect, will they grow the same if I do not have male and female? Also, If I have berries I am concered with parking cars nearby. Are there a lot of berries and do they fall to the ground and make a mess?

HI Lindsay, the presence or lack of berries doesnt really effect growth. You may want to check with your local Extension office to see if there are better plants for privacy. Holly grow very slow around here but perhaps faster in NH. Fruit is generally not a big problem but males would elimnate that problem. Check out this website for an office near you. http://extension.unh.edu/
