purple ash tree

I have a tree that I was told by the developer of my subdivision about 9 years ago, is a purple ash tree. This tree is growing well and has many leaves, despite the fact that last year it had many ash galls on it, this year I don't see any. I am concerned because about 2 weaks ago, I noticed what looks like a long crack in the bottom of the trunk about an 1/8 of an inch deep. As I inspected branches on the tree, I could see this same long "crack" on a few other large branches. Do you have any idea what is going on with my tree? I am concerned for the health of this tree. Thanks, Sherry

Hi Sherry, trees can develop cracks for a number of reasons such as lightning, frost cracks. generally these are old injuries that become more apparent as the tree ages. Not much can be done but general maintenance. watering during drought, mulch. You may want to get a certified arborist to your home to give you more info about the tree. good luck ,
