How do you divide peoines? After dividing can they be planted in containers? We are moving and this plant was a special gift so we would like to take it with us. (We are moving to 1 climate zone warmer)

Peony division is recommended in September. Dig the roots and divdie so each division has at least 3 eyes (next years stems). Plant eyes no more than 2 inches deep. They can be planted into containers for later planting. Containers should be kept where they will receive cool temperatures (35-40 degrees F) over the winter.
