Okra, wording question

I am editing a paper (Chinese author) for the Journal of Poultry Science that says "Okra is a vegetable that is not sensitive to the time of sunshine." How would this plant be characterized in typical horticultural terms?

Thanks, Susan 356-2426, ext. 55

HI Susan, since I dont know the context of the statement I hate to say their intent. It could refer to daylength since some vegetables such as corn need a certain daylength to flower and some are not sensitive to it (my guess) or it could refer to sun or shade in the environmental growing conditions. Here is our website on okra http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/veggies/okra1.html You may also want to contact one of our specialist Chuck Voigt to tease out the intent cevoigt@uiuc.edu good luck, Sandy
