Soil Testing

[Post a Follow Up] [Post to this category]

Hello,

I'd like to know how to get my soil in my yard in Urbana tested. I'd like to test both for gardening purposes, and also to find any lead-contaminated soil as I have a small child at home.

Thank you!

Chris

HI Chris, You can get soil tests at a couple places in the area. ASM Labs on north mattis ave in champaing Agricultural Soil Management 2106 County Road 1000E Champaign, IL (217) 356-5756 and Illini FS on east university in Urbana.Illini FS 1509 East University Ave Urbana, Il 61802 217-384-8308 they will do regular soil tests for gardens. lead would require an additional test and fee. Unless you are in an area where lead paint may have entered the soil or in area of heavy auto emmissions lead may not be of high concern but tests can certainly be done. here is an article you may find helpful about lead in garden soils. Happy gardening, Sandy http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/DG2543.html
