I understand from someone else's question and your answer that you don't know of a place to buy bulk soil for a raised garden bed. My bed needs 32 cubic feet!!! How much, by volume, compost would you mix with top soil to make the best growing medium for growing vegetables and herbs? It will cost over $100 to buy 32 cubic feet of garden soil, even at Mendards! If I mix top soil with other, less expensive, things, maybe I can afford to do it! Thanks.

Hi, You really just have to check around at nurseries to see if they are selling top soil. availbilty varies so it's tough for me to keep a running log of places. look in classifieds as well. I think Ingrams nursery was advertising top soil. I would not buy it in bags at that quaintity. The landscape recycling center is a great place for compost. and they deliver. here is their website. http://www.city.urbana.il.us/urbana/public_works/arbor/lrc/Main.asp about 1/3 (No more than a half) compost is a good mix. happy gardening, sandy
