daffidills

I have a lot of yellow daffidills, some that never bloom, and others that bloom but seem to be "walking" away from the row in which they were planted many years ago to pop up anyway in the yard. I was wondering if it would be good to dig the bulbs up now and replant them in the fall? If so, please tell me what time in the fall would be best. Thank you.

HI Lynette, sounds like they need to be divided. As they develop new bulbs they can get way too crowded. You can dig and replant now but I would leave the leaves on and let them die down naturally. Or you could wait till October and move them then but they will be harder to find since the leaves will be gone. You will find lots of bubls of all sizes. The best blooms are on the biggest bulbs. the others can be replanted as well but it will take a few more years before they bloom well. happy digging. Sandy
