Blue Spruce Trees Problem

My Blue Spruce Trees of 40 years, their branches are dying. The first tree is all dead on the north side and now we have noticed that our other trees have dying branches, too. We've had alot of rain this spring and last fall, too. The problem is on a much larger scale because I've noticed other trees in my neighborhood look sickly, too.

Hi Terri, Blue spruce can have a couple problems both infectious and non infectious. they can get a fungal needle blight, and a fungal trunk canker. http://urbanext.illinois.edu/focus/index_evergreen.html they also hate wet soils. and also can get spruce spider mites and bagworms. I can't really narrow it down much further from your description. I would recommend taking a sample to your local Extension office http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/state/index.html or mailing a sample to the UI plant clinic. http://plantclinic.cropsci.illinois.edu/ hope this helps. Sandy
