Boxwood in Maryland?

I am looking for a small hedge or shrub, that will look nice year round, and won't get too large. I live in Baltimore, MD. Planning to put in a 20' x 2' row along a fence and walkway, so I am sure maintenence (pruning and hedgine) will be necessary. Heard of Winter Gem Boxwood, will this prove hardy in my area? How would I care for it best to ensure proper growth? Is there something else, or prettier, you would recommend? It cannot be harmful to dogs, and I'm not looking for something that could draw bees or other annoying insects (butterflies are ok). Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Buxus microphylla Winter Gem Winter Gem littleleaf boxwood is winter hardy up to Zone 5b USDA. Maryland is mostly Zone 7 USDA so this plant will do fine in your area. This shrub has great foliage and is fairly easy to maintain. It prefers full sun, cool, and moist sites. This plant is quite versatile and can be used for hedging or as foundation plantings. Boxwoods are often used in formal gardens as sheared hedging or they can be kept unsheared for a less formal look.
