Privet and boxwood hedge

I have two boxwood hedges on both sides of a large privet hedge. The privet hedge is getting too tall to prune without difficulty. Also the privet hedge below the lush leaves are barren. These evergreens are on the north side of the house.

If I cut them down close to the ground will they rejuvenate in the spring, when should I cut them, and will it significantly impact the block of the wind in the winter months.

I either need to cut them back or remove them completely. They are beautiful and I would hate to lose them completely. They are one of a few hedges on my street that haven't been completely removed and flower beds put in.

Thanks, Patrice

Hi Patrice, I'm not sure from your question if you are asking about cutting the ptivet or the boxwood so I will mention both. Privet take heavy pruning down to the ground in spring very well. Boxwood can be pruned but not so severely. shaping is best. perhaps you can be a bit more specific as to which plant you want to prune. Sandy
