New Lawn

We have a new home and were told that the best time to put in a lawn was in September. We had several truck loads of dirt hauled in, worked the ground, fertilized, and spread grass seed. We watered regularly at the beginning because of no rain. The grass is now green and doing well. (We have a few sparse patches). We have mowed once not cutting too short. My question is, with the cold weather coming, should we mow again, and what should we do to get it through the winter?

Hi Glenda, sounds like you did things right. just dont let grass get much above 3 inches. so sometimes if weather is warm it may still need to be mowed even inot November. you may find this website helpful. http://urbanext.illinois.edu/lawntalk/
