Soil analysis?

[Post a Follow Up] [Post to this category]

In researching how to better take care of my lawn, many articles recommend contacting your local extension for help analyzing soil samples. I've seen some commercial products to test the 'big four (N-P-K and pH) but, again, some reviewers suggest you just get help from your extension.

So, is this type of service available? How does it work, what's the turnaround time, and how much does it cost, etc?

Thanks.

HI Brian, Some Extension offices send soil tests away for people. we have some great labs locally so it makes for a quicker turn around if people take a sample to the labs directly. ASM Lab (217) 356-5756 on North Mattis and Illini FS 1509 East University Ave Urbana, Il 61802 217-384-8308. home kits are available. I generally recommend a lab test it at least periodically to get a more accurate reading. Extension can help interpreting the analysis if needed. Hope this helps. Sandy
