Thornless Honey Locust Tree

We have two Thornless Honey Locust trees in our yard. One has had fewer leaves every year (we have lived in our house for 7 years). This year I noticed that the other tree has a sizeable section which is also bare. As I look around our neighborhood, I notice there seem to be quite a few Thornless Honely Locust trees with bare sections. Is this normal? Could the trees being dying or have a disease?

Hi Mandy, Honey locust can be a bit slow at leafing out in the spring so I woudl give them a bit more time before limbs are pronounced dead. Honey Locust are nice trees but are not long lived trees in tree terms. they can get a few diseasese I recommend contacting a local certified arborist to take a look at them. you can use this website to find one nearest you. http://www.isa-arbor.com/findarborist/findarborist.aspx hope this helps, Sandy
