Hi, My redbud started to have a section with brown leaves. I noticed it a few weeks ago. I see it is getting larger and affecting more of the branches. Nothing has been done nearby. What is this from and what should I do? Thanks!

Hi Margaret, first I would suggest checking the branches to see if they are dying or if it is just a leaf issue. scratch the small branches to see if it is green underneath. Redbuds do get a serious disease called verticillium wilt that will kill branches or they can get a less serious leaf disease problem. the leaves yellow then brown and fall off but branches are still alive. you may want to take a sample to the UI plant clinic. here is their info. http://plantclinic.cropsci.illinois.edu/ Hope this helps, Sandy
