I plan to get a new sewing machine soon, and I don't know that much about using it. Is there anyone who might know where I could take classes in how to use the machine / how to sew?

Hi, Carl!

I would have recommended Sara's Sewing Center but it just closed within the last 2 weeks. There's a business at Lincoln Square called Sew Sassy that teaches classes. You can reach them at 328-1591 or see them at www.sewsassyinc.com. B & J Sewing Center also sells machines and has classes. They are located at Marketview (by Market Place Mall). The phone number is 355-6090. Rantoul has a shop that sells machines and fabric as well. It's called The Needle and I. It's located at 801 Arends Blvd, Suite 102 in Rantoul. The phone number is 892-2638.

As you know, many places sell machines. These are more likely to teach you how to use them. Urbana Adult Education's orange flyer lists a beginning sewing class that has 8 sessions for this Spring. It started on the 24th of January, so it might be too late to register. It meets on Monday evenings from 6 - 8:30 at Urbana High School. The fee is $80 plus the book. Call them at 384-3530 for more information. I hope this is helpful!
