Hi all, Can anyone tell me where to buy large bags of vermiculite? 4 cubic foot of medium or fine. I have poor soil and would like to till in sand and vermiculite to improve aeration and water retention. Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike, at one time I believe Prairie Gardens in Champaign carried large bags. or check with any garden center I suspect they can order it for you. Just to keep in mind if you are really looking for water retention and aeration in garden soils I would not recommend sand or vermiculite. vermiculite is for container soils. it breaks done very easily outdoors and you will quickly lose any benefit. If you don't add enough sand. at least 50% sand to 50% soil than you will just create bricks. a better route would be to add compost and other organic matter. and a lot less expensive than vermiculite.
