Clematis and plastic siding

I want to plant some clematis for decoration and sun shield on the west side of my house. The new house has plastic siding and plastic porch railings. Will crawling plants do any damage to the plastic? Thanks, - Bob

Hi Bob, so sorry for the delay in reply. clinging plants such as Boston ivy can cause problems with their little suction cups adhere to the siding even if the plants are pulled off. plants such as clematis will need a support and will not climb the siding as is. that is a good thing because then they never really touch the siding. they could cause a mold to grow on the siding because of the lack of air circulation but that is about it. happy gardening. sandy
