Ever green tree losing needles

3 part question: 1. What is causing our short needle evergreen tree to loose it's needles? 2. What treatment do we use to eradicate the problem? 3. How do we prevent it? The needle loss has been occurring for about 5 years and is working it's way up the tree. I don't see evidence of insect infestation, fungus or disease. Despite the yearly needle loss that is creeping up the tree, it is still has new growth. Now we notice the needles loss on our blue spruce and 3 other evergreen trees.

HI Theresa, pines and spruces have been having problems over the last several years from heat and drought/flooding stress. for me to tell you much more I would need pictures and or samples and also what kind of evergreens are affected since they each have their own problems. i suggest contacting your local Extension office to see if you may bring samples to them. please use this website to find the one nearest you. http://web.extension.illinois.edu/state/index.html Samples may also be sent to the UI Plant clinic http://web.extension.illinois.edu/plantclinic/ also here is some information about different evergreen problems. http://web.extension.illinois.edu/state/newsdetail.cfm?NewsID=25886 hope this helps. Sandy
