I have a couple of potted mimosa trees that I've grown from seeds obtained from plants growing here in Springfield. I know these trees don't often do take to our climate, but the parent trees seem to be doing quite well and I'm hoping I can nurse the offspring to thrive. My question is when should I move them from the pots to the ground. They are about 18 inches tall with an approximately 3/8 inch thick trunk. I had contemplated over-wintering them in the garage near a light source but wondered if I should just go ahead and put them in the ground this fall. Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you.

Hi Brian, my theory has always been it's better to get them into the ground now so they can get established. Mimosas do live here as you have said. some years they may die to the ground but the roots stay alive and resprout. Enjoy!
