I'd like to grow Chayote squash in my Champaign garden. What is the growing season for this vine? Is this a good idea for this location?

HI Eva, so sorry for the delay in answering. even though they are related to squash they aren't true squash as we think of them. we are a bit too far north for chayote to grow well although this year it would have worked. they need a long hot growing season. if you started them early indoors and with luck of la late frost you might get a crop.

Hello!

It is September, would it be ok to plant chayote and keep indoors ‘till winter is over than transfer outdoors?

Thank you
