We have a newly planted (last year) pin oak. This spring it was dry and the leaves started to wilt. We watered it, but now about half the leaves are starting to turn brown. What can we do to save it?

At this point your best bet is to keep it well watered. During hot dry spells this may mean every day. Just check the soil with your fingers for moisture. I would also mulch it with 3-4 inches of wood mulch. Be sure keep the mulch a couple inches from the trunk. Check the branches for life by scratching a few withyour thumbnail. If they show green then the tree may leaf out again. Trees may take 3-4 years to become established so they will need a bit of extra care during that time.
